Star Wars: The Old Republic – Our Meeting Was Not a Coincidence

A SWTOR jedi facepalming herself. Or himself. Could go either way.

EA BioWare obviously lacks both access to Google and a sense of history.

In 2005, Star Wars: Galaxies saw the New Game Enhancements (NGE) launch on November 15. It did not end well and went down in MMO folklore as a “worst thing EVAH” touchpoint.

In 2012, Star Wars: The Old Republic will launch its free-to-play (F2P) conversion on … November 15.

Even funnier (to me, anyway), 2012 is a leap year, so EA BioWare had even less chance of doing something like this than in a ‘normal’ year. It’s not quite a one in a million shot, but odds of 1 in 366 isn’t something you’d want to bet on.

And yet out of all those possible dates…

  1. Maybe they’re trying to create a new national holiday. NGE Day, where you blow up the game of your choice. Think I’ll blow up WoW and claim I was doing it on instructions from Al Quaeda.
